Leave your hotel in the morning and proceed to Kandy, en-route visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage – providing home and refuge to the largest heard of captive Elephants in the world. There are over 80 animals residing here presently of 3 generations ranging from the ages of a few months to large adults, of which some act as foster parents to the young ones.
Up on reaching Kandy, visit the Temple of the Tooth relic - the main attraction of the city for pilgrims, Buddhist devotees as well as the tourists coming to the city. Declared as a UNESCO world heritage site, Kandy was the last stronghold and the kingdom of the Sinhalese Kings. Visit the town the market area and on your return stop at the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The route from Kandy takes you through broad acres of growing rice fields (paddy), coconut palms and a picturesque landscape. On the return drive a stop can be made at a tea factory to see the process of making tea, the factory outlet sells fresh Ceylon tea to anyone interested in buying some.
