45 KM towards south from Colombo – Kalutara, a town known in the past for spice-trading and now of the famous Kalutara Temple build in 1873, has become another key tourist city in the recent past. Kalu Ganga the river that joins the Indian Ocean has given the name Kalutara to the area meaning banks of the black river. The area also boasts of fortifications dating back from the times when Portuguese, Dutch and British vied for control of the area. The beaches golden and full of lush green vegetation empty and serine ready to relax and unwind the stressful minds with the gentle phase of the ocean waves on the breeze.
